I have lived in Southend all of my life, except 10 years in Dutch speaking countries and 4 years in Scotland and over the years, have tried many of the fish and chip shops in the area and the world. THIS IS THE BEST!!!!!
I am fortunate in that I have eaten in some of the top restaurants all over the world and I usually go for fish, and Ye Olde Chippy ranks up there with the best fish restaurants that I have ever been in.
On one occasion I had a large Cod and chips, which was specially cooked as it was a big portion, with just a little salt on the chips and nothing else. It still ranks as one of the best plates of food I have ever had in my 58 years.
I usually have something simpler after the pub a portion of chips with half mushy peas and half curry sauce sploshed over incredible!!! Or on extra special occasions cod roe layered on the top of the chips/mushy peas/curry sauce thing words are beginning to fail me.
People I have sent there all agree with me!!!!
All the locals know too, but they keep too quiet about it, which is wrong as these people need our support and encouragement KEEP GOING- WE LOVE YOU!!!! -

Ye Olde Chippy is right on the seafront near the arcades and is one of the busiest chip shops in Southend. In Summer it's always packed with tourists and people visiting the amusements and the pier. There are tables inside and also benches outside so you can sit outside on warm days. There is also a takeway service. The food is great and the service is quick and efficient.

They cook the chips the way i like em . Not eneemicly white but a deep golden brown colour. The fish is pretty good too. A place to watch the world go by sitting outside eating Fish and Chips . Ah , happy days
